Fabrics and Workmanship Innovation in Fashion Industry

Danish fashion brand Ganni has teamed up with Spanish materials research company Pyratex to create a grey clothing line made from banana waste biomaterials. Combines waste from the banana food industry, including leaves, trunks and branches, with organic cotton. This material is part of Ganni's future fabrics, which plan to develop innovative materials only for its clothing line.

There is also Kudarat leather designed by Divya Verma, National Institute of Design of India. Kudarat leather is similar to animal leather, but cruelty-free, waterproof, compostable, antibacterial, and has good tensile strength, making it ideal for practical applications. As an alternative to bio-based leather, it uses all raw materials that are organic and sourced from nature, including seaweed, natural fibers, flowers, and nutrient-rich fruit/vegetable peels that we discard. Kudarat leather is held together using natural adhesives, algal biopolymers and natural water repellants. Once bioleather sheets are made, they are dyed using natural colors from food and floral waste, such as vegetable peels, walnut shells, wood chips, roses and marigolds. Ultimately, Kudarat leather looks, feels and lasts almost as well as traditional animal hides, and is even suitable for embellishment and embroidery.

In addition to the innovation of fabrics that can bring new inspiration to fashion designers, new production workmanship also have the same effect.

One of the main clothing technology in spring and summer of 2023 is three-dimensional patterns. The three-dimensional pattern is to create a three-dimensional pattern design by 3D cutting, sewing or hand-stitching, or combine floral accessories to present a partial flower shape on the garment. It is more prominent and dazzling on simple style clothes.
